This just in, while not “officially confirmed” as of yet, Bloomberg news ran an article in USA Today stating that the iPhone is slated to be available to Verizon customers as early as January 2011!  This is great news to all of those Verizon customers out there (including myself) who didn’t go with AT&T due to the bad reputation of dropped calls and shoddy network connectivity.  This will officially bring an end to AT&T’s evil empire of iPhone exclusivity.  This “unofficial announcement” comes on the heels of word that Verizon has been busy building out their high-speed 4G network.

Come on, this doesn’t have anything to do with VMware?  But wait, it does my friends.  With your new Verizon iPhone in tow, you can download the WYSE PocketCloud app.

Well, that’s WYSE, not VMware…???  Hold on…with WYSE PocketCloud you can reach your virtualized desktop from the palm of your hand.  Wyse PocketCloud is VMware View 4.0 Certified and supports the VMware View 4.0 connection broker in direct and tunneling modes.  Bingo!  There you have it, I have officially tied the iPhone into a post on a VMware blog, thank you.

  1. yes, but what about the droid?! either flavor will do, but i have to say, i picked up the moto droid this last december and have been pretty impressed with all that it has going for it. granted, there are days when i want to huck it across the room, but i can say that about my laptop or desktop too, so… as for the virtualization side of things though, i’m not too sure. i’m sure there are apps out there, but i haven’t really dealt with anything in particular and i have yet to delve too far into that arena, but i’m sure it will only be a matter of time. as for the iphone coming to vzw though, that’s exciting news indeed. while there’s a small part of me that is inherently anti-apple, i also have to admit that they can definitely put out a decent product, so it will be interesting to see what kind of effect that has on at&t…

    1. Jacob,
Thanks for the reply. While yes, the Droid is nice, and it does offer a lot of really nice features, I still find myself wanting the iPhone. Every time I’m at the Apple Store and I pick one up, I’m thrilled by all that it offers. The biggest perk for me is that it’s also an iPod, you can’t get that with Droid, surely you can get some music by subscribing but it’s just not iTunes afterall. You make a good point, it will be interesting to see how AT&T’s marketing changes when iPhone comes to VZW.

  2. Greg,
Seems like VM world conference is going to be a blast…I loved the back pack…someone ought to make it available to educational institutions nation wide.
It will be soon enough for you to attend the conference in SF….looking forward to seeing you in late August.
