KEMP has built a large and loyal install base across a range of market segments, applications and geographies. These include a large number of customers who have deployed KEMP’s LoadMaster load balancers in conjunction with Microsoft workloads. As a part of the solution for Exchange, Lync or SharePoint a key component has historically been Microsoft’s Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG). One key feature of TMG was that it offered customers a way to publish and protect workload servers such as Exchange Client Access Servers especially in Internet Facing deployments where a clean separation between critical infrastructure and the public internet is essential.
Now that End Of Sale for TMG has arrived*, KEMP Technologies will be extending the successful LoadMaster platform with a new security feature pack to build on existing core technologies such as the Reverse Proxy function which has enabled successful joint deployments of TMG and LoadMaster in Internet Facing Microsoft applications. KEMP has just introduced a new feature to their popular line of load balancers, the feature is called the Edge Security Pack or ESP. What KEMP offers their customers with the release of ESP is the capability to have:
- End point authentication for pre-auth
- Single Sign On across virtual services
- LDAP authentication from the LoadMaster to the Active Directory
- NTLM and Basic authentication communication from a Client to the LoadMaster
Do you need ESP?
That’s a slightly odd question to ask honestly. Would you like more security with your server load balancer, or not? Would you like Single Sign On with your load balancing across virtual services, or not? Would you like fries with that? Come on, of course everyone would like more security in their infrastructure. However, adding this component to your current situation fully depends on your current situation. Are you already a KEMP customer? Or do you use a different load balancing product altogether? Either way, it’s a unique piece of software added to a stellar line of hardware for server load balancing. Since I can’t say it as good as KEMP does, I’ve added a video from KEMP featuring Jason Dover, Sr. Solutions Engineer for KEMP, who will walk you through KEMP Technologies Edge Security Pack.
