This is part two of a 3 part series on the best certifications for IT newcomers, mid-level admins and Sr. level engineers.
You’ve come to a point in your career where you feel like you’re an experienced IT professional. You have at least five years of experience under your belt and all of the entry-level certifications that you want, and now can’t decide what to do or which direction to go next. Last week, I talked about the best certifications for IT newcomers. I mentioned certifications like A+, Network+ and CCENT as a good place to start. Now I want to focus on what I think are the best certifications for the mid-level IT professional, someone with at least five years of experience in the IT field and a good understanding of the many facets of the industry.
There are so many different certifications to choose from and many paths to take going forward; it can be hard to decide which way to go. After all, most certifications are a good investment of your time and hard earned money. The last thing you want to do is waste six months and thousands of dollars studying for and taking an exam on a certification you end up not using or that employers find useless.
Like the last article, I’m not getting paid or rewarded in any form or fashion from any of the vendors whose certifications end up on my list. In fact, it would be great if you could stick to vendor neutral exams, but unfortunately the certification business is a big money industry with lots of players, so exams and vendor marketing is slipped into all the study guides and books you get. The important thing is to find a certification that you think will benefit your career going forward, and one that you find interesting too. At any rate, here is my list of the top five certifications for the mid-level IT professional. Read the full post.
